The history and origin of the TPE beauties
Are you considering renting a real doll in our shop? Or maybe you own one of your own? In both cases, the question arose as to where the modern sex doll came from in the first place...
According to historians, the idea of a sex doll came from a Roman poet by the name of Ovid. In his story Pygmalion, a Cypriot king and sculptor carves a statue of a beautiful woman. She was called "Galatea" and she was so enchanting that he fell in love with her and asked the goddess Aphrodite to bring her to life so he could sleep with her.
Other historians report that 17th-century Dutch sailors fashioned women's bodies out of rags and rope to have some fun on long sea voyages. Therefore, in some areas, the term "Dutch woman" is still used for extravagant dolls.
Let's get a little more modern: At the beginning of the 20th century, the psychiatrist Ivan Bloch was of the opinion that real dolls were the true means of therapy for mental and physical illnesses. They were made of rubber and only prescribed by doctors.
In 1950, the forerunner of the famous Barbie doll found its way into society. Made of latex, to be inflated and nothing like today's sophisticated real dolls. Due to the lack of advertising and tolerance in the public space, this sex doll found its rapid sale in secret.
10 years later the first silicone sex doll was introduced in America. This heralded the first sexual revolution. There was no material before that came so close to human skin. But the price made the complete establishment very complicated. The silicone dolls were only available "under the counter" in the red light district. Due to the prudish views of society at the time, the legislature banned public advertising.
This caused a scandal in 1997. American radio host Howard Stern had fun with a sex doll on his radio show. The doll came from the hands of artist Matt McMullen and was very similar to the dolls as we know them today. After the act was over and Stern voiced his unending enthusiasm for the product and service, public outrage and sales figures from all retailers of such dolls skyrocketed.
The latest innovation of our century concerns the material. A sexdoll is no longer made of silicone, but of thermoplastic elastomers (TPE). This plastic is also sometimes referred to as “elastoplast”. At room temperature, it feels soft, like real human skin. Due to the increasing presence and tolerance towards such products, better and better developments are possible. We, at premiumsexdoll®, are firmly convinced that our Premium Sex Dolls not only help with mental or physical disadvantages, but also make many hidden or secret fetishes a reality.
